Aussiedoodle full grown

A full grown Standard Aussiedoodle weighs up to about 70 pounds, and a Mini Aussiedoodle up to about 30 pounds. Height follows the Poodle parent, so a Standard stands around 20 to 23 inches and a Mini around 14 to 17 inches.

Fair. Four to five months is the usual time to make this estimate. It is reasonable now, but the range is still wide.

In short

Key takeaways

  1. A full grown Aussiedoodle weighs 15 to 70 lb across all its sizes.
  2. No kennel club recognizes the Aussiedoodle, so these are typical ranges built from the parent breeds and a veterinary publisher.
  3. Most of the growing is done by about 11 months.
  4. A curly or doodle coat means regular paid grooming, which is a real yearly cost.
  5. The chart below shows a band, not a line, because individual dogs vary.

PetMD says a Standard "can grow to be 70 pounds" without giving a floor. The lower figure and the heights come from the parent standards: an Australian Shepherd is 50 to 65 pounds (male) at 20 to 23 inches, and a Standard Poodle is over 15 inches.

PetMD says a Mini "can weigh up to 30 pounds". The lower figure and the heights come from the Miniature Poodle standard, at 10 to 15 pounds and 10 to 15 inches.

Timing

When a Aussiedoodle stops growing

In our figures, a dog in the large size class has done almost all of its weight gain by about 11 months. After that the weekly gain drops below a quarter of a percent of adult weight, which is slow enough that you will not see it on the scales week to week.

Height finishes earlier than weight. The AKC puts small breeds at full size by 6 to 8 months, medium breeds at around 12 months, and giant breeds at 12 to 18 months, with some very large breeds taking up to 24. In a breed with several sizes, the smaller variety finishes first: that is a size effect, not a breed one.

Variation

Why individual Aussiedoodles differ

No kennel club recognizes the Aussiedoodle, so there is no official size. PetMD gives a ceiling for each size rather than a full range, which is why the lower figures here come from the parent breed standards.

An Australian Shepherd is a working dog with a lean build. An Aussiedoodle often carries that frame, so it can look bigger than it weighs.

A Mini Aussiedoodle and a Mini Aussie are different dogs. The Mini Aussie is a recognized breed, the Miniature American Shepherd, with its own AKC standard.

Running cost

Grooming a Aussiedoodle

A curly or doodle coat is a running cost, and it is worth knowing the figure before you take a puppy home rather than after. The price per groom goes up with the size of the dog.

FAQ

Questions people ask

How big is a Aussiedoodle full grown?
15 to 70 pounds across every size this breed comes in, standing 18 to 23 inches at the shoulder. No registry recognizes this cross, so these are typical ranges rather than a standard.
How can I tell how big my Aussiedoodle puppy will get?
Weigh your puppy and enter its age in the calculator on this page. It is already set to the large growth curve for this breed, so it works backwards from where your puppy is now rather than from the breed average. Four to six months is when the estimate is most reliable.
How often does a Aussiedoodle need grooming?
A curly or doodle coat needs a groom every 4 to 6 weeks under published guidance. Over a year that adds up, and the grooming cost estimator works out what it comes to for a dog this size.
When does a Aussiedoodle stop growing?
Weight gain slows to almost nothing at around 11 months for a dog in the large size class. Height finishes earlier than weight in every breed.
How big is a mini Aussiedoodle full grown?
Up to about 30 pounds, standing roughly 12 to 17 inches. The Miniature Poodle parent sets the ceiling, so ask which Poodle was used.
Is an Aussiedoodle the same as a mini Aussie?
No. A Mini Aussie is the Miniature American Shepherd, a recognized AKC breed with a standard of 13 to 18 inches and 20 to 40 pounds. An Aussiedoodle is a cross with a Poodle and has no standard at all.
When does an Aussiedoodle stop growing?
A Mini is near its adult weight by about ten months. A Standard takes closer to eleven months, and large dogs keep adding muscle for a few months after the weight settles.

How we calculate this

The adult weight and height come from the sources below. The shape of the growth chart comes from our own calculation on the open data behind a published veterinary growth standard, described on the how we calculate page. The charts are estimates built from a breed range and a population curve, not measurements of this breed.
