Dog breed growth charts

Growth charts and full grown sizes for 24 popular breeds: 13 recognized breeds with figures from their kennel club standard, and 11 crosses with a typical range built from the parent breeds.

Each page has the puppy weight calculator pre-set to that breed, a weight-by-age chart for every size variety, and the sources behind the numbers.

Reading them

How to read these charts

Each breed page shows a band rather than a line. The bottom edge is what a dog at the low end of the adult range would weigh at that age, and the top edge is the same for a dog at the high end. Your own puppy sits somewhere inside.

The bands are worked out by taking the adult weight range for the breed and scaling it back along the growth curve for that size class. So the shape of the curve comes from the growth data, and the height of the band comes from the breed standard.

Recognized breeds and crosses are not the same thing

For a recognized breed, the adult weight and height come from the AKC breed standard, or from an international standard where the AKC does not give a figure. Those are official numbers.

For a cross such as a Cavapoo or a Bernedoodle there is no standard, because no registry recognizes the dog. We build a typical range from the parent breeds' standards plus a veterinary publisher, show it as a typical range, and say on every page why these dogs vary more than purebreds do.

Teacup, micro and pocket

None of these is a recognized size in any breed. Where sellers use them we say so plainly on the breed page and give the standard figures instead.

Method

How these charts are built

The growth curves behind every chart come from the open dataset published with the veterinary growth standard below. Breed weights and heights come from the kennel club standard for that breed, listed on each breed page. See how we calculate for the full method.
