Cane Corso full grown

A full grown male Cane Corso weighs 99 to 110 pounds and stands 25 to 27.5 inches at the shoulder. A female weighs 88 to 99 pounds at 23.5 to 26 inches. The AKC standard sets height and says weight should be proportionate to it, so the weights here come from the international FCI standard.

Fair. Four to five months is the usual time to make this estimate. It is reasonable now, but the range is still wide.

In short

Key takeaways

  1. A full grown Cane Corso weighs 88 to 110 lb across all its sizes.
  2. The weight and height here come from the official breed standard.
  3. Most of the growing is done by about 13 months.
  4. A short coat keeps the grooming bill low.
  5. The chart below shows a band, not a line, because individual dogs vary.

Heights are the AKC standard. The AKC gives no weight figure, saying only that weight should be "proportionate to height", so the weights are the FCI standard: 45 to 50 kg for males and 40 to 45 kg for females.

Timing

When a Cane Corso stops growing

In our figures, a dog in the giant size class has done almost all of its weight gain by about 13 months. After that the weekly gain drops below a quarter of a percent of adult weight, which is slow enough that you will not see it on the scales week to week.

Height finishes earlier than weight. The AKC puts small breeds at full size by 6 to 8 months, medium breeds at around 12 months, and giant breeds at 12 to 18 months, with some very large breeds taking up to 24.

Sex

Male and female

The breed standard gives different figures for males and females, and they are in the tables above. In the growth data behind our calculator, a female of a given size class is also slightly further along toward her adult weight at any given age than a male, so telling the calculator which you have shifts the estimate by a few percent.

Variation

Why individual Cane Corsos differ

The Cane Corso is one of the few breeds where the national standard sets no weight at all. The AKC asks for a dog proportionate to its height, which leaves real room between two dogs of the same height.

A giant breed takes longer to finish than any other size. Weight is still climbing at a year, and the chest and head keep broadening into the second year.

Growing a giant-breed puppy too fast is a known risk to developing joints. How much to feed a growing Cane Corso is a question for your vet, not for a calculator.

FAQ

Questions people ask

How big is a Cane Corso full grown?
88 to 110 pounds across every size this breed comes in, standing 23.5 to 27.5 inches at the shoulder. Those figures come from the breed standard.
How can I tell how big my Cane Corso puppy will get?
Weigh your puppy and enter its age in the calculator on this page. It is already set to the giant growth curve for this breed, so it works backwards from where your puppy is now rather than from the breed average. Four to six months is when the estimate is most reliable.
When does a Cane Corso stop growing?
Weight gain slows to almost nothing at around 13 months for a dog in the giant size class, and the chest and frame keep filling out for months after that. Height finishes earlier than weight in every breed.
How much does a full grown Cane Corso weigh?
Males 99 to 110 pounds and females 88 to 99 pounds, under the FCI standard. Working lines and pet lines both produce dogs above that, and the AKC does not set a limit.
When is a Cane Corso full grown?
Our figures put the giant size class at about 93 percent of adult weight at twelve months, and the last of it arrives through the second year. Height finishes before weight does.
Why does the AKC standard not give a weight?
Because it asks for balance instead. The standard sets a height range and then says weight should be proportionate to it, which lets a correctly built dog of either sex sit anywhere sensible inside that frame.

Method

How we calculate this

The adult weight and height come from the sources below. The shape of the growth chart comes from our own calculation on the open data behind a published veterinary growth standard, described on the how we calculate page. The charts are estimates built from a breed range and a population curve, not measurements of this breed.
