International siteDogs in India: Prices, Breeds and Costs
This is the India section of Zooming Paws. The pages here are written for Indian buyers: prices in rupees, weights in kilograms, and the legal and climate questions that only matter if you live here.
Every price comes from a published Indian source read on 14 October 2026, with at least three sources behind each breed. Where our sources disagree, we show both figures and say so, because a single confident number would be a worse answer than an honest range.

The native breeds
Almost every page about dogs in India is about breeds that came from somewhere else. These are the ones that did not. 5 of the 15 here are registered breeds with the ICAR National Bureau of Animal Genetic Resources; the rest are documented breeds and landraces without a registry entry, several of which have never been formally measured at all. Where that is the case the page says so and shows no figures.

Method
How these prices are put together
Indian dog prices are not published anywhere official. There is no price list, no registry of sales and no regulator collecting figures. What exists is a set of Indian pet publishers and marketplaces that each state a range, and those ranges do not agree, because they are quietly describing different markets.
So we do three things. We name the seller type beside every figure, because an unregistered home-bred litter and a KCI-registered one are different purchases at different prices and most pages blur the two. We span the sources rather than pick one, so the band you see covers what all of them say. And we print the disagreement where it is large, which for a Tibetan Mastiff means a difference of several lakhs between two sources we both consider worth citing.
What we will not do
We will not invent a figure to fill a gap. No source we found prices a pet shop breed by breed, so the calculator says so and shows the across-breeds figure instead. No source prices a tier 3 town separately from a tier 2 city, so both get the same number and the page tells you why. No source prices a puppy by age, so there is no age input.
On the legal question
In March 2024 the central government asked the states to prohibit the import, breeding and sale of about 23 dog breeds. Two High Courts set that circular aside in April 2024 and the government told a third in January 2025 that it was not acting on it. Four of the breeds on these pages were named in it. Where that applies, the breed page carries a dated box setting out what the courts did, with the sources. We are not in a position to advise you on the law and we do not try to.

Sources behind the legal boxes
The price sources sit on the breed pages, beside the figures they support. These are the reports behind the legal position, which is the part of these pages most likely to change. See the price calculator for the full picture.
