Caucasian Shepherd Price in India (2026)

A Caucasian Shepherd puppy in India costs somewhere between ₹20,000 and ₹1,20,000 from a local breeder and ₹1,20,000 to ₹2,50,000 with FCI or Russian kennel pedigree, with imports from Russia and Georgia in between. Only two Indian publishers price this breed and they disagree by a factor of three, so these figures are wider and less certain than the rest of the site.

₹1,20,000 to ₹2,50,000 and up

The range our sources give for a KCI-registered Caucasian Shepherd.

Inside Scroller is the only source that prices pedigree quality, at ₹1,20,000 to ₹2,50,000 and up for an FCI or Russian Kennel Federation registered show dog. One source is not corroboration, so this is marked an estimate.

In Delhi NCR

₹70,000 to ₹2,00,000

Delhi NCR is a metro. Across the metro cities our sources name, a Caucasian Shepherd runs ₹70,000 to ₹2,00,000. That is the general market across seller types, not the figure for one seller.

Inside Scroller gives Delhi NCR, which it calls the primary availability hub, at ₹70,000 to ₹1,80,000 and Mumbai or Bangalore at ₹75,000 to ₹2,00,000. It prices Punjab and Haryana separately on farm and security demand at ₹60,000 to ₹1,50,000.

Indian climate

Struggles in Indian heat

Poodles.in says the Caucasian Shepherd carries a dense, heavy double coat built for harsh mountain winters, which makes it one of the most challenging breeds to groom in India’s heat, with constant high shedding and massive blowouts twice a year. It needs 60 to 90 minutes of steady daily exercise and faces bloat and hip dysplasia.

Legal status

The Caucasian Shepherd was named in the 2024 central advisory, which no longer stands.

The Caucasian Shepherd Dog was named in the central advisory of 12 March 2024, as were the Central Asian and South Russian Shepherd Dogs. The Karnataka High Court quashed that circular on 10 April 2024, the Delhi High Court set it aside in April 2024, and in January 2025 the Union government told the Bombay High Court it was not acting on it. Some states, Tamil Nadu among them, issued their own orders adopting the list. Importing a dog is a separate question from keeping one, so take advice before committing to an import.

Checked . This is a summary of what the sources below report. It is not legal advice, and the position can differ by state and by housing society.

In short

Key takeaways

  1. An unregistered home-bred Caucasian Shepherd runs ₹20,000 to ₹1,20,000, and one with KCI papers ₹1,20,000 to ₹2,50,000.
  2. Food alone is ₹3,000 to ₹10,000 a month, which is ₹36,000 to ₹1,20,000 a year.
  3. No source we found prices a Caucasian Shepherd outside the metros, so the national range is the best we can give for a smaller city.
  4. Adult weight is 44.9 to 64.9 kg on the Federation Cynologique Internationale standard, with most growing done by about 13 months.
  5. Struggles in Indian heat. Poodles.
  6. The Caucasian Shepherd was named in the 2024 central advisory, which no longer stands. The legal box below gives the dates and the sources.

The prices on this page are less certain than the rest of the site

Only two Indian publishers price this breed, and they disagree sharply: Poodles.in puts a puppy at ₹20,000 to ₹80,000 while Inside Scroller starts at ₹60,000 and runs to ₹2,50,000 and up. The bands on this page span both and are marked as working estimates for that reason. Treat them as the shape of the market rather than a quote.

The price

Caucasian Shepherd price by seller type

Who you buy from moves this price more than anything else does. Each row is the range our Indian sources state for that kind of seller, with the sources named in the notes column.

Where fromPrice in ₹What the sources say
Unregistered home breeder₹20,000 to ₹1,20,000Poodles.in puts a Caucasian Shepherd Dog puppy at ₹20,000 to ₹80,000 depending on lineage, breeder reputation and city. Inside Scroller prices an India-bred dog from very limited local stock at ₹60,000 to ₹1,20,000. The band spans both because we cannot tell which market you will meet, and it is marked an estimate because two sources this far apart do not corroborate each other.
KCI-registered breeder₹1,20,000 to ₹2,50,000 and upInside Scroller is the only source that prices pedigree quality, at ₹1,20,000 to ₹2,50,000 and up for an FCI or Russian Kennel Federation registered show dog. One source is not corroboration, so this is marked an estimate.
Imported line₹75,000 to ₹2,00,000Inside Scroller gives ₹80,000 to ₹2,00,000 for a dog imported from Russia or Georgia and ₹75,000 to ₹1,80,000 from Romania or Serbia, and adds ₹60,000 to ₹1,20,000 for shipping, permits and quarantine on top.
Pet shopNot priced by breedNo source we found prices a pet-shop puppy breed by breed. One Indian source puts a breed puppy from a pet shop at ₹15,000 to ₹50,000 across all breeds.
Shelter or indie rescue₹0 to ₹2,000Most shelters and indie rescues charge nothing, or a nominal ₹500 to ₹2,000 that often covers the first vaccination and the sterilisation.

Every figure read on 14 October 2026. Where two sources disagree, the range spans both and the note says which said what.

Variation

What changes a Caucasian Shepherd's price

The honest driver here is that nobody really knows. Two Indian publishers price this breed and they are a factor of three apart at the bottom. With so few dogs changing hands, no published figure is authoritative.

Origin is the ladder Inside Scroller uses: India-bred from very limited local stock at the bottom, then Eastern European imports, then Russian and Georgian imports, then FCI or Russian Kennel Federation pedigree show quality at the top.

Import logistics add ₹60,000 to ₹1,20,000 on Inside Scroller before the dog.

Delhi NCR is the primary availability hub on Inside Scroller, and Punjab and Haryana are priced separately on farm and security demand rather than pet demand.

What does not change it

No source we read prices a Caucasian Shepherd by age, so the calculator on this page has no age input. A puppy is priced as a puppy and an older dog is usually a rescue rather than a sale. No source states a price difference between the sexes in this breed either, so the calculator does not ask.

Running cost

What a Caucasian Shepherd costs to keep

The calculator at the top of this page adds these up for you. The puppy price is not in the total: this is what the first year of keeping the dog costs on top of buying it.

LineFigureWhat it is
Food₹3,000 to ₹10,000 a monthInside Scroller gives ₹5,500 to ₹10,000, noting very large feed quantities. Poodles.in gives ₹3,000 to ₹4,500 and says an adult may need close to 3,000 calories a day at around 30 percent protein.
Grooming₹1,500 to ₹3,500 a sessionEvery 6 to 8 weeks. Poodles.in gives ₹1,200 to ₹1,800 a month instead and calls this one of the most challenging breeds to groom in India’s heat, with constant shedding and massive blowouts twice a year.
Puppy vaccinations₹3,000 to ₹8,000The full first-year course.
Starter accessories₹3,000 to ₹13,000Bed, crate, bowls, collar, leash and toys, once.

Food and grooming are this breed's own sourced figures. The other lines are the same for any dog and are sourced on the price calculator page.

Not in the figure

  • Spaying or neutering: about ₹1,500 to ₹5,000 at a shelter or a subsidised clinic, and ₹6,000 to ₹25,000 privately, more for a big dog.
  • Training classes: about ₹5,000 to ₹30,000 for a first course, and far more for a guarding breed.
  • Air conditioning: a real cost for a thick-coated breed in the plains, which our sources price per breed rather than generally.
  • Anything that goes wrong: one night in intensive care runs ₹12,000 to ₹25,000 and a cruciate repair ₹1.2 to ₹1.8 lakh.

The same growth engine drives our puppy weight calculator, which works in pounds. For a dog in the giant size class, weekly weight gain drops to almost nothing by about 13 months. Height finishes earlier than weight: this breed stands 64 cm to 75 cm at the shoulder when grown.

Poodles.in calls this one of the most challenging breeds to groom in India’s heat. The coat was built for Caucasus winters and it sheds constantly, with two blowouts a year on top.

This is a livestock guardian bred to work alone and make its own decisions, which is a temperament question quite separate from the climate one. It is not a breed our sources treat as a family pet.

Bloat and hip dysplasia are the named health risks, both standard for a dog of this mass.

At a minimum 50 kilograms for a male on the FCI standard, with no maximum stated, everything about this dog is expensive: food, medicine, fencing and training.

Legal

Checked . This is a summary of the court reports and news listed at the foot of this page. It is not legal advice. The position can differ by state and by housing society, and a fresh central notification would change it again. The full list of breeds the circular named, and what each court did, is on the dog price page.

Buying

How to buy a Caucasian Shepherd responsibly

Verify what you are buying. At these prices, in a market with almost no dogs in it, the gap between a Caucasian Shepherd and a large crossbreed sold as one is worth checking carefully.

If you are importing, budget the ₹60,000 to ₹1,20,000 of logistics separately and sort the permits before paying for the dog.

Take the guarding instinct seriously. This breed was named in the 2024 central advisory for a reason, and a dog of this size and temperament without professional training is a liability rather than a pet.

The checks that apply to any puppy

  • See both parents, in the place they live. A puppy mill cannot offer you that, which is what makes it the most useful question you can ask.
  • Ask for the vaccination and deworming record with dates and what was given. The full first-year course runs ₹3,000 to ₹8,000 on our sources.
  • Check the KCI papers if you are paying for them. Both parents must be KCI-registered and carry KCI-approved microchips for a litter to be registrable, and the breeder must file within 90 days of the birth. Papers record parentage, not health.
  • Avoid a pet shop if you can. Supertails writes that many Indian pet shops source from puppy mills, and advises anyone who does buy from one to insist on the vaccination records and see a vet within 48 hours.
  • Consider a rescue. A shelter or indie rescue charges ₹0 to ₹2,000, often covering the first vaccination and the sterilisation.

FAQ

Caucasian Shepherd prices: the questions people ask

What is the Caucasian Shepherd price in India?
Our two sources disagree sharply. Poodles.in puts a puppy at ₹20,000 to ₹80,000; Inside Scroller starts an India-bred dog at ₹60,000 and runs pedigree show quality to ₹2,50,000 and up. We show the span and mark it an estimate, because two sources this far apart do not corroborate one another.
Why are your Caucasian Shepherd figures less certain than the rest of the site?
Because only two Indian publishers price the breed and they differ by a factor of three. Everywhere else on these pages we use at least three. We would rather tell you the figure is shaky than present it with the same confidence as a Labrador price.
Is the Caucasian Shepherd banned in India?
It was named in the central advisory of 12 March 2024, which the Karnataka High Court quashed and the Delhi High Court set aside, both in April 2024, and which the government told the Bombay High Court in January 2025 it was not acting on. Some states issued their own orders adopting the list. Your state and your municipal body can tell you the position where you live. This is a summary of reported court orders, not legal advice.
How big does a Caucasian Shepherd get?
The FCI standard gives a desirable 72 to 75 cm at the withers for males and 67 to 70 cm for females, with a minimum weight of 50 kg for males and 45 kg for females and no maximum stated. It is among the largest breeds anyone keeps.
Can a Caucasian Shepherd cope with Indian heat?
Poodles.in calls it one of the most challenging breeds to groom in India’s heat because of a dense double coat built for mountain winters. Between the coat, the mass and the guarding temperament, our sources do not present this as an easy dog to keep here.
How big does a Caucasian Shepherd get in kg?
44.9 to 64.9 kg as an adult, on the Federation Cynologique Internationale standard, which states it as Males: minimum 50 kg. Females: minimum 45 kg.. Height at the shoulder is 64 to 75 cm. Most of the weight gain is done by about 13 months for a dog in the giant size class.

India’s own breeds

Native alternatives of about this size

A Caucasian Shepherd runs 44.9 to 64.9 kg on the Federation Cynologique Internationale standard. One native breed of about that size, with the weight our sources actually measured, and the thing that usually decides it in India: whether the dog needs cooling.

Read the climate line on those cards before you take this as a recommendation. At this weight the only measured native breed we have is a Himalayan flock guardian, and our sources say it struggles on the plains. If you live anywhere hot, a native breed is not the easy answer at this size: the honest answer is a smaller dog.

Put any two of them side by side in the comparison tool, or see all fifteen native breeds, measured and unmeasured, on the breeds pages.
