International siteTibetan Mastiff Price in India (2026)
A Tibetan Mastiff in India costs about ₹25,000 to ₹80,000 if sourced from a Himalayan community, ₹60,000 to ₹1,50,000 from an unregistered breeder and ₹1,00,000 to ₹2,50,000 with KCI papers, with show and imported lines running from ₹1,20,000 to ₹10,00,000. It is the most expensive breed on these pages and the one our sources are most emphatic about: a Himalayan dog in the Indian plains needs air conditioning as a welfare requirement, not a comfort.

Supertails and Inside Scroller both give ₹1,00,000 to ₹2,50,000 for a KCI-registered pet-quality dog. Mr n Mrs Pet states ₹1,00,000 to ₹8,00,000 and up across its listings.
In Delhi NCR
₹70,000 to ₹8,00,000
Delhi NCR is a metro. Across the metro cities our sources name, a Tibetan Mastiff runs ₹70,000 to ₹8,00,000. That is the general market across seller types, not the figure for one seller.
This is the widest and least reliable city band on these pages. Inside Scroller gives Delhi NCR ₹70,000 to ₹1,80,000 and Mumbai or Bangalore ₹80,000 to ₹2,00,000. Supertails gives Delhi NCR ₹1,50,000 to ₹8,00,000 and Mumbai ₹1,50,000 to ₹10,00,000. Both also price the Himalayan states far lower: ₹25,000 to ₹2,00,000 on Supertails for Himachal and Uttarakhand.

Working estimates included. The number of deworming doses and vet visits in a first year is ours, not a figure from a source. The prices per dose and per visit are sourced.
Cooling is not in the total. For this breed our sources price it at ₹2,000 to ₹15,000 a month in the hot season, and it depends on your house rather than your dog.
Indian climate
Struggles in Indian heat
Supertails writes that air-conditioning infrastructure is not a luxury for a Tibetan Mastiff owner but a welfare requirement, from March to October in most metros, and that the Himalayan-adapted double coat creates significant welfare concerns in the plains. It rates the Himalayan cities as genuinely suitable, Bengaluru as manageable, and Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai and most plains metros as requiring exceptional climate investment.
Legal status
The Tibetan Mastiff may have been caught by the 2024 central advisory, which no longer stands.
The 2024 central advisory did not name the Tibetan Mastiff, but it did include an open-ended entry reading simply "Mastiffs", which is one of two entries on that list that named no breed at all. Whether a Tibetan Mastiff fell inside it was never settled, because the Karnataka High Court quashed the circular on 10 April 2024 and the Delhi High Court set it aside in April 2024, and in January 2025 the government told the Bombay High Court it was not acting on it. The vagueness of entries like that one was among the reasons the circular was challenged.
Checked . This is a summary of what the sources below report. It is not legal advice, and the position can differ by state and by housing society.

In short
Key takeaways
- An unregistered home-bred Tibetan Mastiff runs ₹60,000 to ₹1,50,000, and one with KCI papers ₹1,00,000 to ₹2,50,000.
- Food alone is ₹4,000 to ₹12,000 a month, which is ₹48,000 to ₹1,44,000 a year.
- No source we found prices a Tibetan Mastiff outside the metros, so the national range is the best we can give for a smaller city.
- Adult weight is 31.8 to 68 kg on the American Kennel Club standard, with most growing done by about 13 months.
- Struggles in Indian heat. Supertails writes that air-conditioning infrastructure is not a luxury for a Tibetan Mastiff owner but a welfare requirement, from March to October in most metros, and that the Himalayan-adapted double coat creates significant welfare concerns in the plains.
- The Tibetan Mastiff may have been caught by the 2024 central advisory, which no longer stands. The legal box below gives the dates and the sources.
The price
Tibetan Mastiff price by seller type
Who you buy from moves this price more than anything else does. Each row is the range our Indian sources state for that kind of seller, with the sources named in the notes column.
| Where from | Price in ₹ | What the sources say |
|---|---|---|
| Unregistered home breeder | ₹60,000 to ₹1,50,000 | Supertails gives ₹60,000 to ₹1,20,000 for a basic or unregistered puppy and Inside Scroller ₹60,000 to ₹1,50,000 for an India-bred one from a limited local breeding programme. Both also price Himalayan community-sourced dogs far lower, at ₹25,000 to ₹80,000. |
| KCI-registered breeder | ₹1,00,000 to ₹2,50,000 and up | Supertails and Inside Scroller both give ₹1,00,000 to ₹2,50,000 for a KCI-registered pet-quality dog. Mr n Mrs Pet states ₹1,00,000 to ₹8,00,000 and up across its listings. |
| Show quality | ₹1,20,000 to ₹5,00,000 | Supertails gives ₹2,50,000 to ₹5,00,000 for show or champion quality. Inside Scroller prices the "Lion Head" type, a premium variant, at ₹1,20,000 to ₹3,00,000 and up. |
| Imported line | ₹90,000 to ₹10,00,000 and up | Supertails gives ₹5,00,000 to ₹10,00,000 and up for imported or Lion Head show lines. Inside Scroller is far lower, at ₹1,00,000 to ₹2,50,000 for a dog imported from Tibet or China and ₹90,000 to ₹2,00,000 from Europe or the USA, and adds ₹60,000 to ₹1,20,000 of import costs. The two do not agree and we show both. |
| Pet shop | Not priced by breed | No source we found prices a pet-shop puppy breed by breed. One Indian source puts a breed puppy from a pet shop at ₹15,000 to ₹50,000 across all breeds. |
| Shelter or indie rescue | ₹0 to ₹2,000 | Most shelters and indie rescues charge nothing, or a nominal ₹500 to ₹2,000 that often covers the first vaccination and the sterilisation. |
Every figure read on 14 October 2026. Where two sources disagree, the range spans both and the note says which said what.

Variation
What changes a Tibetan Mastiff's price
Where the dog came from matters more than anything else. Both sources price a Himalayan community-sourced dog at ₹25,000 to ₹80,000 and a KCI-registered one at ₹1,00,000 to ₹2,50,000. That is the same breed at four times the price.
The "Lion Head" type is the premium end of the Indian market, at ₹1,20,000 to ₹3,00,000 and up on Inside Scroller. It is an exaggerated show type, not a separate breed, and the exaggeration is in the coat and head that make Indian heat harder.
Our sources disagree about this breed more than any other. On imports, Supertails says ₹5,00,000 to ₹10,00,000 while Inside Scroller says ₹90,000 to ₹2,50,000. On Mumbai, Supertails says up to ₹10,00,000 and Inside Scroller up to ₹2,00,000. Inside Scroller explains part of it: prices have come down a long way from the Chinese speculative bubble of 2011 to 2014.
Import costs add ₹60,000 to ₹1,20,000 on top, on Inside Scroller.
No source gives a tier 2 or tier 3 figure for this breed, so the calculator shows the national range for smaller cities and says so.
What does not change it
No source we read prices a Tibetan Mastiff by age, so the calculator on this page has no age input. A puppy is priced as a puppy and an older dog is usually a rescue rather than a sale. No source states a price difference between the sexes in this breed either, so the calculator does not ask.

Running cost
What a Tibetan Mastiff costs to keep
The calculator at the top of this page adds these up for you. The puppy price is not in the total: this is what the first year of keeping the dog costs on top of buying it.
| Line | Figure | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| Food | ₹4,000 to ₹12,000 a month | Supertails gives ₹6,000 to ₹12,000 for premium food and Inside Scroller ₹4,000 to ₹8,000. |
| Grooming | ₹1,500 to ₹3,500 a session | Every 8 to 8 weeks. Inside Scroller prices a session at ₹1,500 to ₹3,500 every eight weeks, and intensively through the shedding season. Supertails instead gives ₹3,000 to ₹8,000 a month, which is a much larger figure. |
| Puppy vaccinations | ₹3,000 to ₹8,000 | The full first-year course. |
| Starter accessories | ₹3,000 to ₹13,000 | Bed, crate, bowls, collar, leash and toys, once. |
| Cooling | ₹2,000 to ₹15,000 a month | Supertails gives ₹5,000 to ₹15,000 a month of air-conditioning electricity in the plains and Inside Scroller ₹2,000 to ₹5,500. It is the largest cooling cost of any breed on these pages and it is not in the first-year total below. Not in the calculator total, because it depends on your house rather than your dog. |
Food and grooming are this breed's own sourced figures. The other lines are the same for any dog and are sourced on the price calculator page.

Not in the figure
- Spaying or neutering: about ₹1,500 to ₹5,000 at a shelter or a subsidised clinic, and ₹6,000 to ₹25,000 privately, more for a big dog.
- Training classes: about ₹5,000 to ₹30,000 for a first course, and far more for a guarding breed.
- Air conditioning: a real cost for a thick-coated breed in the plains, which our sources price per breed rather than generally.
- Anything that goes wrong: one night in intensive care runs ₹12,000 to ₹25,000 and a cruciate repair ₹1.2 to ₹1.8 lakh.
Adult size
How big a Tibetan Mastiff gets
Adult weight and height are the American Kennel Club standard, quoted in the standard's own words below. The growth figures are our own calculation on a published veterinary growth standard, scaled to this breed's adult range.

The AKC standard sets only a minimum height, 26 inches for males and 24 for females, with no maximum. The 30 inch top of the range here is our own cap so the growth chart has something to draw, and it is a working estimate rather than a standard figure.

The same growth engine drives our puppy weight calculator, which works in pounds. For a dog in the giant size class, weekly weight gain drops to almost nothing by about 13 months. Height finishes earlier than weight: this breed stands 61 cm to 76 cm at the shoulder when grown.

Supertails is more direct about this breed than any other: air conditioning is a welfare requirement, not a luxury, from March to October in most metros, and the Himalayan-adapted double coat creates significant welfare concerns in the plains.
It also grades the cities: the Himalayan ones genuinely suitable, Bengaluru manageable, and Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai and the rest of the plains requiring exceptional investment to do properly.
The cooling bill is the largest on these pages, at ₹2,000 to ₹15,000 a month across our two sources, and it is deliberately not in the first-year total because it depends entirely on your house.
Supertails also names nocturnal barking as a defining trait of the breed rather than a training failure, and a serious problem for urban neighbours. That has nothing to do with heat and a great deal to do with whether this dog can live in a city.
Legal
Is the Tibetan Mastiff legal in India?
Checked . This is a summary of the court reports and news listed at the foot of this page. It is not legal advice. The position can differ by state and by housing society, and a fresh central notification would change it again. The full list of breeds the circular named, and what each court did, is on the dog price page.
Buying
How to buy a Tibetan Mastiff responsibly
A Himalayan community-sourced dog is a quarter of the price of a registered one and is the same breed. If you are not showing or breeding, ask yourself what the papers are buying you here.
Be careful what you are buying. The Bhotia or Himalayan sheepdog is a different dog often sold as a Tibetan Mastiff, and at these prices the difference is worth confirming.
Supertails prices professional training at ₹25,000 to ₹80,000 for this breed and an orthopaedic bed at ₹5,000 to ₹15,000. Neither is in the first-year total on this page.
The checks that apply to any puppy
- See both parents, in the place they live. A puppy mill cannot offer you that, which is what makes it the most useful question you can ask.
- Ask for the vaccination and deworming record with dates and what was given. The full first-year course runs ₹3,000 to ₹8,000 on our sources.
- Check the KCI papers if you are paying for them. Both parents must be KCI-registered and carry KCI-approved microchips for a litter to be registrable, and the breeder must file within 90 days of the birth. Papers record parentage, not health.
- Avoid a pet shop if you can. Supertails writes that many Indian pet shops source from puppy mills, and advises anyone who does buy from one to insist on the vaccination records and see a vet within 48 hours.
- Consider a rescue. A shelter or indie rescue charges ₹0 to ₹2,000, often covering the first vaccination and the sterilisation.
FAQ
Tibetan Mastiff prices: the questions people ask
- What is the Tibetan Mastiff price in India?
- About ₹25,000 to ₹80,000 from a Himalayan community, ₹60,000 to ₹1,50,000 from an unregistered breeder, ₹1,00,000 to ₹2,50,000 with KCI papers, and ₹1,20,000 to ₹10,00,000 for show or imported lines. The two sources disagree widely at the top and we show both figures.
- Why do Tibetan Mastiff prices vary so wildly?
- Partly because the market itself is thin and partly history. Inside Scroller points to the Chinese speculative bubble of 2011 to 2014, when prices reached extraordinary levels, and says they have normalised a long way since. Supertails still quotes up to ₹10,00,000 for imported Lion Head show lines while Inside Scroller caps imports at ₹2,50,000.
- Can a Tibetan Mastiff live in Delhi or Mumbai?
- Supertails says it takes exceptional climate investment, calling air conditioning from March to October a welfare requirement rather than a luxury, and puts the electricity alone at ₹5,000 to ₹15,000 a month. It rates the Himalayan cities as genuinely suitable and Bengaluru as manageable. The honest answer is that the plains are a poor fit for this dog.
- Is a Tibetan Mastiff banned in India?
- It was not named in the 2024 central advisory, though that list included an open-ended "Mastiffs" entry which named no breed. The question was never settled because the circular was quashed by the Karnataka High Court and set aside by the Delhi High Court in April 2024, and the government told the Bombay High Court in January 2025 that it was not acting on it. Check your state and your housing society, and take proper advice if it matters; we are not giving legal advice.
- What is a Lion Head Tibetan Mastiff?
- An exaggerated show type with a heavier mane, not a separate breed. Inside Scroller prices it at ₹1,20,000 to ₹3,00,000 and up. The exaggeration is mostly in the coat, which is the part of the dog that makes Indian heat harder, so it is a premium paid for a worse fit.
- How big does a Tibetan Mastiff get in kg?
- 31.8 to 68 kg as an adult, on the American Kennel Club standard, which states it as 90-150 pounds (male), 70-120 pounds (female). Height at the shoulder is 61 to 76 cm. Most of the weight gain is done by about 13 months for a dog in the giant size class.

India’s own breeds
Native alternatives of about this size
A Tibetan Mastiff runs 31.8 to 68 kg on the American Kennel Club standard. One native breed of about that size, with the weight our sources actually measured, and the thing that usually decides it in India: whether the dog needs cooling.
Read the climate line on those cards before you take this as a recommendation. At this weight the only measured native breed we have is a Himalayan flock guardian, and our sources say it struggles on the plains. If you live anywhere hot, a native breed is not the easy answer at this size: the honest answer is a smaller dog.
Put any two of them side by side in the comparison tool, or see all fifteen native breeds, measured and unmeasured, on the breeds pages.
