International sitePug Price in India (2026)
A Pug puppy in India costs about ₹8,000 to ₹45,000 from an unregistered home breeder and ₹25,000 to ₹50,000 from a KCI-registered one. The price is the easy part: this is a flat-faced breed in a hot country, and Inside Scroller treats cooling as an essential monthly cost from April to September rather than a comfort.

₹25,000 to ₹50,000 and up
The range our sources give for a KCI-registered Pug.
Inside Scroller gives ₹25,000 to ₹50,000 and up for KCI-registered or show quality. Mr n Mrs Pet states ₹35,000 to ₹1,50,000 and up across its listings, which is far higher than any other source we read for this breed.
In Delhi NCR
₹8,000 to ₹45,000
Delhi NCR is a metro. Across the metro cities our sources name, a Pug runs ₹8,000 to ₹45,000. That is the general market across seller types, not the figure for one seller.
Across Inside Scroller’s metro rows, Kolkata and Ahmedabad lowest at ₹8,000 and Mumbai highest at ₹45,000.

Working estimates included. The number of deworming doses and vet visits in a first year is ours, not a figure from a source. The prices per dose and per visit are sourced.
Cooling is not in the total. For this breed our sources price it at ₹1,500 to ₹3,000 a month in the hot season, and it depends on your house rather than your dog.
Indian climate
Needs active cooling in summer
Inside Scroller prices cooling at ₹1,500 to ₹3,000 a month and calls it essential from April to September. The reason is the flat face: the breed is prone to brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome, where narrow nostrils, a long soft palate and a narrow windpipe together restrict breathing, and a dog that cannot breathe freely cannot cool itself.
The Pug was not on the list in the 2024 central advisory.

The price
Pug price by seller type
Who you buy from moves this price more than anything else does. Each row is the range our Indian sources state for that kind of seller, with the sources named in the notes column.
| Where from | Price in ₹ | What the sources say |
|---|---|---|
| Unregistered home breeder | ₹8,000 to ₹45,000 | Inside Scroller puts pet-quality Pugs at ₹8,000 to ₹45,000, Aruani Pet Stop at ₹12,000 to ₹35,000 and the Supertails price list at ₹8,000 to ₹30,000. |
| KCI-registered breeder | ₹25,000 to ₹50,000 and up | Inside Scroller gives ₹25,000 to ₹50,000 and up for KCI-registered or show quality. Mr n Mrs Pet states ₹35,000 to ₹1,50,000 and up across its listings, which is far higher than any other source we read for this breed. |
| Pet shop | Not priced by breed | No source we found prices a pet-shop puppy breed by breed. One Indian source puts a breed puppy from a pet shop at ₹15,000 to ₹50,000 across all breeds. |
| Shelter or indie rescue | ₹0 to ₹2,000 | Most shelters and indie rescues charge nothing, or a nominal ₹500 to ₹2,000 that often covers the first vaccination and the sterilisation. |

Variation
What changes a Pug's price
Papers are the main step, from ₹8,000 to ₹45,000 unregistered to ₹25,000 to ₹50,000 with KCI registration on Inside Scroller.
Females are priced ₹3,000 to ₹6,000 above males on Inside Scroller.
City is a clean factor: ₹6,000 to ₹22,000 in tier 2 and tier 3 towns against ₹8,000 to ₹45,000 across the metros.
Our sources disagree sharply at the top. Mr n Mrs Pet states ₹35,000 to ₹1,50,000 and up for a Pug, which is several times what the three Indian publishers give. We show it because it is a real quoted range on a live marketplace, not because we think it is typical.
Inside Scroller’s advice, which we pass on, is to put health screening ahead of price: it says cheap Pugs frequently come with severe respiratory problems.
What does not change it
No source we read prices a Pug by age, so the calculator on this page has no age input. A puppy is priced as a puppy and an older dog is usually a rescue rather than a sale. Sex does change the price in this breed, and the figure above is what a source states for it.

Running cost
What a Pug costs to keep
The calculator at the top of this page adds these up for you. The puppy price is not in the total: this is what the first year of keeping the dog costs on top of buying it.
| Line | Figure | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| Food | ₹1,200 to ₹2,800 a month | Inside Scroller stresses strict portion control, because Pugs gain weight easily and weight makes the breathing worse. |
| Grooming | ₹500 to ₹900 a session | Every 6 to 8 weeks, an interval we have estimated because no source states one. The coat is short. The job the price does not cover is the wrinkles, which Inside Scroller says must be cleaned at home weekly. |
| Puppy vaccinations | ₹3,000 to ₹8,000 | The full first-year course. |
| Starter accessories | ₹3,000 to ₹13,000 | Bed, crate, bowls, collar, leash and toys, once. |
| Cooling | ₹1,500 to ₹3,000 a month | Inside Scroller calls this essential from April to September rather than optional. Not in the calculator total, because it depends on your house rather than your dog. |
Food and grooming are this breed's own sourced figures. The other lines are the same for any dog and are sourced on the price calculator page.

Not in the figure
- Spaying or neutering: about ₹1,500 to ₹5,000 at a shelter or a subsidised clinic, and ₹6,000 to ₹25,000 privately, more for a big dog.
- Training classes: about ₹5,000 to ₹30,000 for a first course, and far more for a guarding breed.
- Air conditioning: a real cost for a thick-coated breed in the plains, which our sources price per breed rather than generally.
- Anything that goes wrong: one night in intensive care runs ₹12,000 to ₹25,000 and a cruciate repair ₹1.2 to ₹1.8 lakh.

The same growth engine drives our puppy weight calculator, which works in pounds. For a dog in the medium size class, weekly weight gain drops to almost nothing by about 10 months. Height finishes earlier than weight: this breed stands 25 cm to 33 cm at the shoulder when grown.
This is the breed where Indian heat and the breed itself collide most directly. Inside Scroller explains brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome plainly: narrow nostrils, an elongated soft palate and a narrow windpipe combine to restrict breathing, with loud breathing, snoring and exercise intolerance as the signs.
A dog pants to cool down. A dog that cannot move air efficiently cannot cool down, which is why cooling is a cost line for a Pug and not for a Labrador. Inside Scroller puts it at ₹1,500 to ₹3,000 a month from April to September.
Keep the weight down. Inside Scroller is firm about portion control, and extra weight makes the breathing and the heat tolerance both worse.
The wrinkles need cleaning at home every week, and Indian humidity makes skin-fold infections more likely, not less.

Buying
How to buy a Pug responsibly
Ask to hear the parents breathe. Not look at them, hear them. Noisy breathing at rest in an adult is the single most useful thing you can observe about a Pug line.
Inside Scroller puts routine vet care for a Pug at ₹8,000 to ₹20,000 a year, higher than for other small breeds, specifically because of the breed’s health complexity. Budget for that rather than for the purchase price.
A cheap Pug is the one case where our sources say the saving is likely to be reversed in vet bills within the first year.
The checks that apply to any puppy
- See both parents, in the place they live. A puppy mill cannot offer you that, which is what makes it the most useful question you can ask.
- Ask for the vaccination and deworming record with dates and what was given. The full first-year course runs ₹3,000 to ₹8,000 on our sources.
- Check the KCI papers if you are paying for them. Both parents must be KCI-registered and carry KCI-approved microchips for a litter to be registrable, and the breeder must file within 90 days of the birth. Papers record parentage, not health.
- Avoid a pet shop if you can. Supertails writes that many Indian pet shops source from puppy mills, and advises anyone who does buy from one to insist on the vaccination records and see a vet within 48 hours.
- Consider a rescue. A shelter or indie rescue charges ₹0 to ₹2,000, often covering the first vaccination and the sterilisation.
FAQ
Pug prices: the questions people ask
- What is the price of a Pug in India?
- About ₹8,000 to ₹45,000 from an unregistered home breeder and ₹25,000 to ₹50,000 with KCI papers, on Inside Scroller, Aruani Pet Stop and the Supertails price list. One marketplace, Mr n Mrs Pet, quotes much higher at ₹35,000 to ₹1,50,000 and up.
- Are Pugs suited to the Indian climate?
- Less than their popularity suggests. Inside Scroller prices cooling at ₹1,500 to ₹3,000 a month and calls it essential from April to September, because the flat face restricts the breathing a dog relies on to cool itself. This is a breed that needs a cool room in an Indian summer.
- Why are some Pug puppies in India so cheap?
- Volume breeding. The breed had a long run of popularity in India and was bred heavily, and Inside Scroller says cheap Pugs frequently come with severe respiratory problems. Its advice is to put health screening ahead of price, which is not advice it gives for every breed.
- How much does a Pug cost per month in India?
- Inside Scroller gives ₹4,000 to ₹10,000 a month, of which food is ₹1,200 to ₹2,800 and cooling ₹1,500 to ₹3,000 in the hot months. Routine vet care runs ₹8,000 to ₹20,000 a year, which it says is higher than comparable small breeds because of the breed’s health complexity.
- What should I ask a Pug breeder about breathing?
- Ask whether either parent has been assessed for brachycephalic airway problems, and listen to both parents at rest. Inside Scroller lists loud breathing, snoring and exercise intolerance as the signs. A breeder who treats snoring as a charming trait rather than a symptom is telling you something.
- How big does a Pug get in kg?
- 6.4 to 8.2 kg as an adult, on the American Kennel Club standard, which states it as 14-18 pounds. Height at the shoulder is 25 to 33 cm. Most of the weight gain is done by about 10 months for a dog in the medium size class.

India’s own breeds
Native alternatives of about this size
Nothing we could offer here honestly. A Pug is 6.4 to 8.2 kg on the American Kennel Club standard, and no native Indian breed with a published measurement is close enough in size for us to call it an alternative.
India’s small native dogs have never been formally measured. The Indian Spitz is the obvious candidate and it has no registry descriptor and no characterization study we could find; the Indie is a landrace with no standard at all. There are weights for both on pages that sell puppies, and we are not going to set one of those beside a kennel club standard as though the two were the same kind of claim.
The native breeds pages list all fifteen, measured and unmeasured, and say which is which.
