Indian climate
Suits the Indian climate
Poodles.in describes the coat as short to medium and weather-resistant, with shedding that picks up through India's transitional seasons, and notes the breed spends a lot of time outdoors collecting dirt and environmental allergens. Nothing in our sources treats Indian heat as a barrier for this breed the way it does for the Arctic ones.
The Belgian Malinois was not on the list in the 2024 central advisory. Three shepherd breeds were, the Central Asian, Caucasian and South Russian, and none of them is this one.

The price
Belgian Malinois price by seller type
Who you buy from moves this price more than anything else does. Each row is the range our Indian sources state for that kind of seller, with the sources named in the notes column.
| Where from | Price in ₹ | What the sources say |
|---|---|---|
| Unregistered home breeder | ₹18,000 to ₹50,000 | What's The Cost puts a pet-quality Malinois with no papers at ₹20,000 to ₹50,000. Inside Scroller's tier 2 row starts at ₹18,000. |
| KCI-registered breeder | ₹40,000 to ₹85,000 and up | Inside Scroller gives ₹45,000 to ₹85,000 and up for KCI-registered or show quality, and What's The Cost ₹40,000 to ₹75,000. Poodles.in states ₹50,000 to ₹1,00,000 for the breed without splitting by seller. |
| Show quality | ₹60,000 to ₹1,50,000 | PawSpace gives ₹40,000 to ₹1,50,000 and up for the breed as a whole, which tops out in the same place. |
| Imported line | ₹65,000 to ₹3,00,000 and up | Our two sources disagree sharply. Inside Scroller puts a KNPV or IPO working-line import at ₹65,000 to ₹1,00,000 and up, adding ₹55,000 to ₹1,20,000 in logistics. What's The Cost puts an imported bloodline at ₹2,25,000 to ₹3,00,000. Inside Scroller separately notes that a trained adult Malinois of 12 to 24 months runs ₹1,50,000 to ₹3,00,000 or more, mostly to professional K9 programmes. |
| Pet shop | Not priced by breed | No source we found prices a pet-shop puppy breed by breed. One Indian source puts a breed puppy from a pet shop at ₹15,000 to ₹50,000 across all breeds. |
| Shelter or indie rescue | ₹0 to ₹2,000 | Most shelters and indie rescues charge nothing, or a nominal ₹500 to ₹2,000 that often covers the first vaccination and the sterilisation. |

Variation
What changes a Belgian Malinois's price
Working credentials set this price, not looks. Inside Scroller prices a KNPV or IPO sport-line import at ₹65,000 to ₹1,00,000 and up, and a trained adult of 12 to 24 months at ₹1,50,000 to ₹3,00,000, which mostly goes to professional K9 programmes rather than families.
Registered litters from health and drive-tested parents start at ₹45,000 on Inside Scroller. Drive testing is particular to this breed: what is being tested is working temperament, not conformation.
The two sources disagree about imports by a factor of three, so the band on this page is wide on purpose.
City matters less here than seller type: ₹18,000 to ₹55,000 in tier 2 cities against ₹22,000 to ₹95,000 across the metros.
What does not change it
No source we read prices a Belgian Malinois by age, so the calculator on this page has no age input. A puppy is priced as a puppy and an older dog is usually a rescue rather than a sale. No source states a price difference between the sexes in this breed either, so the calculator does not ask.

Running cost
What a Belgian Malinois costs to keep
The calculator at the top of this page adds these up for you. The puppy price is not in the total: this is what the first year of keeping the dog costs on top of buying it.
| Line | Figure | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| Food | ₹2,250 to ₹5,500 a month | Inside Scroller gives ₹2,500 to ₹5,500 for premium food and Poodles.in ₹2,250 to ₹3,000. |
| Grooming | ₹500 to ₹1,200 a session | Every 4 to 4 weeks. A short to medium working coat, so this is a bath and a tidy rather than a clip. Inside Scroller gives ₹500 to ₹900 a session and Poodles.in ₹700 to ₹1,200 a month. |
| Puppy vaccinations | ₹3,000 to ₹8,000 | The full first-year course. |
| Starter accessories | ₹3,000 to ₹13,000 | Bed, crate, bowls, collar, leash and toys, once. |
Food and grooming are this breed's own sourced figures. The other lines are the same for any dog and are sourced on the price calculator page.

Not in the figure
- Spaying or neutering: about ₹1,500 to ₹5,000 at a shelter or a subsidised clinic, and ₹6,000 to ₹25,000 privately, more for a big dog.
- Training classes: about ₹5,000 to ₹30,000 for a first course, and far more for a guarding breed.
- Air conditioning: a real cost for a thick-coated breed in the plains, which our sources price per breed rather than generally.
- Anything that goes wrong: one night in intensive care runs ₹12,000 to ₹25,000 and a cruciate repair ₹1.2 to ₹1.8 lakh.

The same growth engine drives our puppy weight calculator, which works in pounds. For a dog in the extra large size class, weekly weight gain drops to almost nothing by about 11 months. Height finishes earlier than weight: this breed stands 56 cm to 66 cm at the shoulder when grown.
This is one of the few breeds on these pages our sources are relaxed about in Indian conditions. The coat is short to medium and weather-resistant, and Poodles.in flags seasonal shedding rather than heat as the coat problem.
The real Indian constraint is exercise. Inside Scroller carries dog-sport equipment and training at ₹2,000 to ₹5,000 a month and calls it essential for the breed. A Malinois that is not worked is a problem dog, and the hours when it can be worked hard in an Indian summer are narrow.
Outdoor time means ticks and environmental allergens, which Poodles.in names directly for this breed.
Legal
Legal status
The Belgian Malinois was not on the list in the 2024 central advisory. Three shepherd breeds were, the Central Asian, Caucasian and South Russian, and none of them is this one.
For what the 2024 advisory was and what the courts did with it, see the dog price page. Checked . Not legal advice.
Buying
How to buy a Belgian Malinois responsibly
Be honest about why you want one. This is a police and military breed with a working drive that most households cannot absorb, and our sources price training as a permanent cost rather than a puppy expense.
Ask what the parents were tested for, and expect the answer to be about temperament and drive as well as hips.
The checks that apply to any puppy
- See both parents, in the place they live. A puppy mill cannot offer you that, which is what makes it the most useful question you can ask.
- Ask for the vaccination and deworming record with dates and what was given. The full first-year course runs ₹3,000 to ₹8,000 on our sources.
- Check the KCI papers if you are paying for them. Both parents must be KCI-registered and carry KCI-approved microchips for a litter to be registrable, and the breeder must file within 90 days of the birth. Papers record parentage, not health.
- Avoid a pet shop if you can. Supertails writes that many Indian pet shops source from puppy mills, and advises anyone who does buy from one to insist on the vaccination records and see a vet within 48 hours.
- Consider a rescue. A shelter or indie rescue charges ₹0 to ₹2,000, often covering the first vaccination and the sterilisation.
FAQ
Belgian Malinois prices: the questions people ask
- What is the Belgian Malinois price in India?
- About ₹18,000 to ₹50,000 from an unregistered home breeder and ₹40,000 to ₹85,000 with KCI papers, across three Indian publishers. Working-line imports start at ₹65,000 on Inside Scroller and run to ₹3,00,000 on other sources.
- Is a Belgian Malinois a good first dog in India?
- Our sources do not present it that way. Inside Scroller carries dog-sport equipment and training as an essential monthly cost of ₹2,000 to ₹5,000, which it does not do for any other breed we priced. The breed suits the Indian climate better than most; it is the drive, not the weather, that makes it demanding.
- Why are imported Malinois so much more expensive?
- Because the import is a working pedigree with paperwork behind it. Inside Scroller adds ₹55,000 to ₹1,20,000 in shipping and logistics on top of the purchase price for Belgian, Dutch, German or Czech sport lines.
- Malinois or German Shepherd for India?
- On our sources the Malinois has the easier coat for Indian heat and the harder temperament for a household. A German Shepherd is cheaper at the unregistered end, ₹15,000 to ₹28,000 against ₹18,000 to ₹50,000, and far more widely bred here, which cuts both ways: more choice and more poor breeding.
- How much does a Malinois cost to keep each month?
- Inside Scroller gives ₹7,000 to ₹16,000 a month all in, with food at ₹2,500 to ₹5,500 and training a standing line of its own.
- How big does a Belgian Malinois get in kg?
- 18.1 to 36.3 kg as an adult, on the American Kennel Club standard, which states it as 60-80 pounds (male), 40-60 pounds (female). Height at the shoulder is 56 to 66 cm. Most of the weight gain is done by about 11 months for a dog in the extra large size class.

Native alternatives of about this size
A Belgian Malinois runs 18.1 to 36.3 kg on the American Kennel Club standard. Two native breeds of about that size, with the weight our sources actually measured, and the thing that usually decides it in India: whether the dog needs cooling.
- Mudhol HoundKarnataka21 to 40 kg on our sources, against 18.1 to 36.3 kg for a Belgian Malinois.Suits the Indian climate · NBAGR registered
- ChippiparaiTamil Nadu13.6 to 32.5 kg on our sources, against 18.1 to 36.3 kg for a Belgian Malinois.Suits the Indian climate · NBAGR registered
This is not a claim that a native breed is the better dog. It is a claim that it is usually the invisible option: nobody advertises it, so nobody considers it. The Belgian Malinois itself is one of the imports our sources do not treat cooling as a requirement for, so on that count there is nothing to choose between them.
Put any two of them side by side in the comparison tool, or see all fifteen native breeds, measured and unmeasured, on the breeds pages.
