German Spitz Price in India (2026)

A German Spitz puppy in India costs about ₹15,000 to ₹35,000 from an unregistered home breeder and ₹35,000 to ₹55,000 with KCI papers, with show lines to ₹70,000. Only two Indian publishers price this breed, so these figures are less certain than most on this site, and there is a bigger point underneath: in India the word "Spitz" is used for three different dogs.

Indian climate

Needs active cooling in summer

Poodles.in says the German Spitz has a stand-off double coat with a profuse ruff and plumed tail, and that India’s humidity causes the dense undercoat to mat close to the skin if it is not brushed regularly. It names patellar luxation, dental problems, progressive retinal atrophy and a collapsing trachea as the breed’s documented concerns, and advises a harness rather than a neck collar.

The German Spitz was not on the list in the 2024 central advisory.

The prices on this page are less certain than the rest of the site

Only two Indian publishers price this breed by name: Inside Scroller, which gives ₹20,000 to ₹70,000 across its tiers, and Poodles.in, which gives ₹15,000 to ₹50,000. The bands here span both and are marked working estimates because two sources are not the three we use elsewhere. Part of the reason is that most dogs sold as "Spitz" in India are Indian Spitz rather than German Spitz, so there is less of a German Spitz market to price.

The price

German Spitz price by seller type

Who you buy from moves this price more than anything else does. Each row is the range our Indian sources state for that kind of seller, with the sources named in the notes column.

Where fromPrice in ₹What the sources say
Unregistered home breeder₹15,000 to ₹35,000Inside Scroller puts a pet-quality German Spitz from a local breeder with no certification at ₹20,000 to ₹35,000 and its tier 2 row at ₹15,000 to ₹45,000. Poodles.in gives ₹15,000 to ₹50,000 for the breed as a whole. Marked an estimate because only two Indian publishers price this breed.
KCI-registered breeder₹35,000 to ₹55,000Inside Scroller is the only source that prices KCI registration for this breed, at ₹35,000 to ₹55,000 for a documented, vaccinated pedigree. One source is not corroboration.
Show quality₹55,000 to ₹70,000 and upA conformation prospect from a proven line.
Imported line₹70,000 to ₹1,20,000Inside Scroller prices a direct import or a puppy from imported parents at this band.
Pet shopNot priced by breedNo source we found prices a pet-shop puppy breed by breed. One Indian source puts a breed puppy from a pet shop at ₹15,000 to ₹50,000 across all breeds.
Shelter or indie rescue₹0 to ₹2,000Most shelters and indie rescues charge nothing, or a nominal ₹500 to ₹2,000 that often covers the first vaccination and the sterilisation.

Every figure read on 14 October 2026. Where two sources disagree, the range spans both and the note says which said what.

Variation

What changes a German Spitz's price

Which Spitz you are being sold is the first question, and in India it is usually not this one. The FCI standard covers five size varieties under one breed, and Inside Scroller says the variant, Mittel, Klein or Gross, is one of the things that moves the price here.

Papers are the clearest step on the one source that prices them: ₹20,000 to ₹35,000 without certification against ₹35,000 to ₹55,000 with a documented KCI pedigree.

Imports or imported parents run ₹70,000 to ₹1,20,000 on Inside Scroller.

Because only two publishers price the breed, the honest answer is that the Indian German Spitz market is small and poorly documented.

What does not change it

No source we read prices a German Spitz by age, so the calculator on this page has no age input. A puppy is priced as a puppy and an older dog is usually a rescue rather than a sale. No source states a price difference between the sexes in this breed either, so the calculator does not ask.

Running cost

What a German Spitz costs to keep

The calculator at the top of this page adds these up for you. The puppy price is not in the total: this is what the first year of keeping the dog costs on top of buying it.

LineFigureWhat it is
Food₹1,500 to ₹3,000 a monthPoodles.in adds that an adult holds condition on about 600 calories and a growing dog about 800, with careful portions protecting knees prone to patellar luxation.
Grooming₹800 to ₹1,800 a monthInside Scroller gives ₹800 to ₹1,500 a month for brushing and professional sessions and Poodles.in ₹1,200 to ₹1,800.
Puppy vaccinations₹3,000 to ₹8,000The full first-year course.
Starter accessories₹3,000 to ₹13,000Bed, crate, bowls, collar, leash and toys, once.

Food and grooming are this breed's own sourced figures. The other lines are the same for any dog and are sourced on the price calculator page.

Not in the figure

  • Spaying or neutering: about ₹1,500 to ₹5,000 at a shelter or a subsidised clinic, and ₹6,000 to ₹25,000 privately, more for a big dog.
  • Training classes: about ₹5,000 to ₹30,000 for a first course, and far more for a guarding breed.
  • Air conditioning: a real cost for a thick-coated breed in the plains, which our sources price per breed rather than generally.
  • Anything that goes wrong: one night in intensive care runs ₹12,000 to ₹25,000 and a cruciate repair ₹1.2 to ₹1.8 lakh.

Adult size

How big a German Spitz gets

Adult weight and height are the Federation Cynologique Internationale standard, quoted in the standard's own words below. The growth figures are our own calculation on a published veterinary growth standard, scaled to this breed's adult range.

Weight, as the Federation Cynologique Internationale states it
The standard gives no weight. It says only that the dog should have a weight corresponding to its size.
Height, as the Federation Cynologique Internationale states it
One standard covers five varieties by height at the withers: Wolfsspitz/Keeshond 49 ± 6 cm, German Giant Spitz 45 ± 5 cm, German Medium Size Spitz 35 ± 5 cm, German Miniature Spitz 27 ± 3 cm, and German Toy Spitz/Pomeranian 21 ± 3 cm.

FCI Standard No. 97, valid from 3 September 2024. The height range here covers the Miniature and Medium varieties, 24 to 40 cm, which are the two Inside Scroller says are sold in India. The standard gives no weight at all, so the pound range is our own working estimate from those heights and is not a standard figure.

The same growth engine drives our puppy weight calculator, which works in pounds. For a dog in the small size class, weekly weight gain drops to almost nothing by about 10 months. Height finishes earlier than weight: this breed stands 24 cm to 40 cm at the shoulder when grown.

The coat is a stand-off double coat and Poodles.in says Indian humidity mats the undercoat close to the skin if it is not brushed regularly. That is a skin-health problem rather than an appearance one.

The windpipe is the reason to use a harness rather than a collar, which Poodles.in advises directly for this breed.

Knees and teeth are the other named concerns, and portion control protects the first of them.

Legal

The German Spitz was not on the list in the 2024 central advisory.

Buying

How to buy a German Spitz responsibly

Ask which variety the parents are registered as, and ask to see the registration. In a market where most "Spitz" dogs are Indian Spitz, that is the question that matters.

Be sceptical of a very cheap "German Spitz". Sniff Society prices an Indian Spitz from a local breeder at ₹8,000 to ₹20,000, which is the dog you are most likely being offered at that price.

The checks that apply to any puppy

  • See both parents, in the place they live. A puppy mill cannot offer you that, which is what makes it the most useful question you can ask.
  • Ask for the vaccination and deworming record with dates and what was given. The full first-year course runs ₹3,000 to ₹8,000 on our sources.
  • Check the KCI papers if you are paying for them. Both parents must be KCI-registered and carry KCI-approved microchips for a litter to be registrable, and the breeder must file within 90 days of the birth. Papers record parentage, not health.
  • Avoid a pet shop if you can. Supertails writes that many Indian pet shops source from puppy mills, and advises anyone who does buy from one to insist on the vaccination records and see a vet within 48 hours.
  • Consider a rescue. A shelter or indie rescue charges ₹0 to ₹2,000, often covering the first vaccination and the sterilisation.

FAQ

German Spitz prices: the questions people ask

What is the German Spitz price in India?
About ₹15,000 to ₹35,000 from an unregistered home breeder and ₹35,000 to ₹55,000 with KCI papers, on the only two Indian publishers that price the breed. We mark these as working estimates because two sources are fewer than we use elsewhere on the site.
What is the difference between a German Spitz, an Indian Spitz and a Pomeranian?
The FCI standard answers part of this directly: German Spitz is one breed in five size varieties, and the smallest of them, the German Toy Spitz at 21 ± 3 cm, is the dog known as the Pomeranian. So a Pomeranian is a German Spitz, at the toy end. The German Medium Spitz is 35 ± 5 cm and the Miniature 27 ± 3 cm, which are the two usually sold in India as German Spitz. The Indian Spitz is a separate, Indian-bred dog, cheaper and far more common here: Sniff Society prices one from a local breeder at ₹8,000 to ₹20,000.
Is my "Spitz" actually an Indian Spitz?
In India, quite possibly. The Indian Spitz is the commonest of the three and the cheapest, and the word Spitz is used loosely in this market. Ask for the registration and the parents’ heights. Supertails separately warns that an Indian Spitz is often mis-sold as a Pomeranian, which is the same confusion from the other direction.
Why are your German Spitz prices marked as estimates?
Because only two Indian publishers price the breed by name, against the three or more we use for every other breed on these pages. Rather than present a two-source figure with the same confidence, we mark it and tell you why.
Does a German Spitz cope with Indian weather?
The main problem is the coat in humidity. Poodles.in says the dense undercoat mats close to the skin without regular brushing, which in Indian conditions leads to skin trouble. Grooming runs ₹800 to ₹1,800 a month on our sources.
How big does a German Spitz get in kg?
5 to 11.8 kg as an adult, on the Federation Cynologique Internationale standard, which states it as The standard gives no weight. It says only that the dog should have a weight corresponding to its size.. Height at the shoulder is 24 to 40 cm. Most of the weight gain is done by about 10 months for a dog in the small size class.

India’s own breeds

Native alternatives of about this size

Nothing we could offer here honestly. A German Spitz is 5 to 11.8 kg on the Federation Cynologique Internationale standard, and no native Indian breed with a published measurement is close enough in size for us to call it an alternative.

India’s small native dogs have never been formally measured. The Indian Spitz is the obvious candidate and it has no registry descriptor and no characterization study we could find; the Indie is a landrace with no standard at all. There are weights for both on pages that sell puppies, and we are not going to set one of those beside a kennel club standard as though the two were the same kind of claim.

The native breeds pages list all fifteen, measured and unmeasured, and say which is which.
