International siteGolden Retriever Price in India (2026)
A Golden Retriever puppy in India costs about ₹10,000 to ₹45,000 from an unregistered home breeder and ₹40,000 to ₹80,000 from a KCI-registered one, with imported and show lines reaching ₹1,50,000. The breed is popular enough in India that litters are easy to find, which keeps the unregistered end of the market cheap and makes the papers worth more than the dog.

Indian climate
Needs active cooling in summer
Supertails writes that a Golden needs air conditioning or shade in Indian summers because of its dense double coat, that heatstroke risk rises once temperatures cross the mid-30s, and that midday walks are a problem across most of the country.
The Golden Retriever was not on the list in the 2024 central advisory.

The price
Golden Retriever price by seller type
Who you buy from moves this price more than anything else does. Each row is the range our Indian sources state for that kind of seller, with the sources named in the notes column.
| Where from | Price in ₹ | What the sources say |
|---|---|---|
| Unregistered home breeder | ₹10,000 to ₹45,000 | Supertails puts a pet-quality Golden at ₹25,000 to ₹45,000. Pet Care Tips, which prices the unregistered market, puts a puppy at ₹10,000 to ₹40,000. Inside Scroller’s city rows start at ₹14,000. The band spans all three, and the low end is the unregistered end. |
| KCI-registered breeder | ₹40,000 to ₹80,000 | Supertails gives ₹45,000 to ₹80,000 for a KCI-registered Golden and Inside Scroller ₹40,000 to ₹75,000 and up. Mr n Mrs Pet states ₹40,000 to ₹95,000 and up across its listings. |
| Show quality | ₹80,000 to ₹1,50,000 | Supertails groups show quality with imported lines at this band. |
| Imported line | ₹50,000 to ₹1,50,000 | Inside Scroller prices an English Cream or imported bloodline at ₹50,000 to ₹80,000 and up. Supertails puts imported and show lines together at ₹80,000 to ₹1,50,000. |
| Pet shop | Not priced by breed | No source we found prices a pet-shop puppy breed by breed. One Indian source puts a breed puppy from a pet shop at ₹15,000 to ₹50,000 across all breeds. |
| Breed rescue | ₹2,000 to ₹5,000 | A rescue fee rather than a purchase price. |

Variation
What changes a Golden Retriever's price
The papers are the main thing you are buying at the top of this market. A Golden is common enough in India that an unregistered litter is easy to find at a fraction of the registered price, and the difference on our sources is roughly ₹30,000 for the same looking puppy.
The English Cream coat carries a premium. Inside Scroller prices imported cream bloodlines at ₹50,000 to ₹80,000 and up. It is a colour, not a separate breed, and no registry treats it as one.
Females are priced ₹4,000 to ₹10,000 above males on Inside Scroller.
City makes a real difference in this breed. Inside Scroller’s metro rows run from about ₹14,000 at the bottom in Kolkata to ₹70,000 at the top in Mumbai, with tier 2 and tier 3 towns at ₹10,000 to ₹35,000.
What does not change it
No source we read prices a Golden Retriever by age, so the calculator on this page has no age input. A puppy is priced as a puppy and an older dog is usually a rescue rather than a sale. Sex does change the price in this breed, and the figure above is what a source states for it.

Running cost
What a Golden Retriever costs to keep
The calculator at the top of this page adds these up for you. The puppy price is not in the total: this is what the first year of keeping the dog costs on top of buying it.
| Line | Figure | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| Food | ₹2,500 to ₹7,000 a month | Inside Scroller gives ₹2,500 to ₹5,500 and Supertails ₹3,000 to ₹7,000. |
| Grooming | ₹800 to ₹2,500 a session | Every 6 to 8 weeks. Inside Scroller gives ₹800 to ₹1,800 a session and Supertails ₹1,500 to ₹2,500. Both add that the coat needs brushing at home several times a week, which costs nothing but time. |
| Puppy vaccinations | ₹3,000 to ₹8,000 | The full first-year course. |
| Starter accessories | ₹3,000 to ₹13,000 | Bed, crate, bowls, collar, leash and toys, once. |
Food and grooming are this breed's own sourced figures. The other lines are the same for any dog and are sourced on the price calculator page.

Not in the figure
- Spaying or neutering: about ₹1,500 to ₹5,000 at a shelter or a subsidised clinic, and ₹6,000 to ₹25,000 privately, more for a big dog.
- Training classes: about ₹5,000 to ₹30,000 for a first course, and far more for a guarding breed.
- Air conditioning: a real cost for a thick-coated breed in the plains, which our sources price per breed rather than generally.
- Anything that goes wrong: one night in intensive care runs ₹12,000 to ₹25,000 and a cruciate repair ₹1.2 to ₹1.8 lakh.

The same growth engine drives our puppy weight calculator, which works in pounds. For a dog in the extra large size class, weekly weight gain drops to almost nothing by about 11 months. Height finishes earlier than weight: this breed stands 55 cm to 61 cm at the shoulder when grown.
Indian climate
Needs active cooling in summer
Supertails writes that a Golden needs air conditioning or shade in Indian summers because of its dense double coat, that heatstroke risk rises once temperatures cross the mid-30s, and that midday walks are a problem across most of the country.
A Golden carries a long double coat that was not built for 40°C. Supertails puts the heatstroke threshold at the mid-30s and advises against midday walks across most of India.
The coat also makes grooming a standing cost rather than an optional one, at ₹800 to ₹2,500 a session every six to eight weeks, plus brushing at home several times a week.
Ears are the other Indian problem. Supertails flags ear infections and skin allergies as common in humid conditions, and a Golden’s ear sits over the canal and holds moisture in.

Buying
How to buy a Golden Retriever responsibly
Hip and elbow scores matter in a breed this size. Ask what the parents were screened for and ask to see the paperwork, not just hear about it.
A Golden is one of the few breeds where adoption is genuinely available in India: Supertails puts a rescue fee at ₹2,000 to ₹5,000.
The checks that apply to any puppy
- See both parents, in the place they live. A puppy mill cannot offer you that, which is what makes it the most useful question you can ask.
- Ask for the vaccination and deworming record with dates and what was given. The full first-year course runs ₹3,000 to ₹8,000 on our sources.
- Check the KCI papers if you are paying for them. Both parents must be KCI-registered and carry KCI-approved microchips for a litter to be registrable, and the breeder must file within 90 days of the birth. Papers record parentage, not health.
- Avoid a pet shop if you can. Supertails writes that many Indian pet shops source from puppy mills, and advises anyone who does buy from one to insist on the vaccination records and see a vet within 48 hours.
- Consider a rescue. A Golden Retriever rescue charges ₹2,000 to ₹5,000 on our sources, and the dogs are usually adults, which tells you what you are getting.
FAQ
Golden Retriever prices: the questions people ask
- What is the real price of a Golden Retriever puppy in India?
- It depends entirely on whether it has papers. Our sources put an unregistered home-bred puppy at ₹10,000 to ₹45,000 and a KCI-registered one at ₹40,000 to ₹80,000. Both are real prices for a real Golden; the second comes with a traceable pedigree.
- Why are Golden Retriever prices so different between websites?
- Because they are pricing different markets without saying so. Pet Care Tips prices the unregistered market and starts at ₹10,000. Supertails prices breeders and starts at ₹25,000. Neither is wrong. We show the seller type beside every figure for exactly this reason.
- Is a Golden Retriever a good choice for an Indian flat?
- The size is manageable and the temperament suits a family, but the coat is the catch. Supertails says the breed needs air conditioning or shade in summer and that midday walks are a problem in most of the country, so a flat without cooling is a harder proposition than the breed’s reputation suggests.
- How much does a Golden Retriever cost per month in India?
- Food runs ₹2,500 to ₹7,000 and grooming ₹800 to ₹2,500 every six to eight weeks on our sources. Inside Scroller puts the all-in monthly figure at ₹6,000 to ₹14,000.
- What does KCI registration actually get me?
- A pedigree you can trace. For a litter to be registered, both parents must themselves be KCI-registered and carry KCI-approved microchips, and the breeder must file within 90 days of the birth. It is a record of parentage, not a health certificate, so it is worth asking separately what the parents were screened for.
- How big does a Golden Retriever get in kg?
- 24.9 to 34 kg as an adult, on the American Kennel Club standard, which states it as 65-75 pounds (male), 55-65 pounds (female). Height at the shoulder is 55 to 61 cm. Most of the weight gain is done by about 11 months for a dog in the extra large size class.

Native alternatives of about this size
A Golden Retriever runs 24.9 to 34 kg on the American Kennel Club standard. Two native breeds of about that size, with the weight our sources actually measured, and the thing that usually decides it in India: whether the dog needs cooling.
- Mudhol HoundKarnataka21 to 40 kg on our sources, against 24.9 to 34 kg for a Golden Retriever.Suits the Indian climate · NBAGR registered
- ChippiparaiTamil Nadu13.6 to 32.5 kg on our sources, against 24.9 to 34 kg for a Golden Retriever.Suits the Indian climate · NBAGR registered
This is not a claim that a native breed is the better dog. It is a claim that it is usually the invisible option: nobody advertises it, so nobody considers it. On climate there is something to choose: our sources say the Golden Retriever needs active cooling in summer, and say the opposite of the breeds above.
