Pomsky full grown

A full grown Pomsky weighs 12 to 35 pounds, and most land between 16 and 24 pounds. Breeders sort them into Toy (up to 15 pounds), Mini (12 to 20 pounds) and Standard (20 to 35 pounds at 12 to 18 inches). No kennel club recognizes the breed, so none of those sizes is official.

Fair. Four to five months is the usual time to make this estimate. It is reasonable now, but the range is still wide.

In short

Key takeaways

  1. A full grown Pomsky weighs 7 to 35 lb across all its sizes.
  2. No kennel club recognizes the Pomsky, so these are typical ranges built from the parent breeds and a veterinary publisher.
  3. Most of the growing is done by about 10 months.
  4. A double coat means regular paid grooming, which is a real yearly cost.
  5. The chart below shows a band, not a line, because individual dogs vary.

Timing

When a Pomsky stops growing

In our figures, a dog in the medium size class has done almost all of its weight gain by about 10 months. After that the weekly gain drops below a quarter of a percent of adult weight, which is slow enough that you will not see it on the scales week to week.

Height finishes earlier than weight. The AKC puts small breeds at full size by 6 to 8 months, medium breeds at around 12 months, and giant breeds at 12 to 18 months, with some very large breeds taking up to 24. In a breed with several sizes, the smaller variety finishes first: that is a size effect, not a breed one.

Variation

Why individual Pomskys differ

A Pomsky crosses a 3 to 7 pound Pomeranian with a 35 to 60 pound Siberian Husky. That is the widest gap between parents of any mix on this site, which is why the adult range is so broad.

Pomskies are almost always bred by artificial insemination, with a Husky mother and a Pomeranian father, because of the size difference. The mother's side tends to pull the litter larger.

A Pomsky has a double coat from the Husky side. It sheds heavily twice a year and is not a low-maintenance coat, whatever the size.

Running cost

Grooming a Pomsky

A double coat is a running cost, and it is worth knowing the figure before you take a puppy home rather than after. The price per groom goes up with the size of the dog.

FAQ

Questions people ask

How big is a Pomsky full grown?
7 to 35 pounds across every size this breed comes in, standing 12 to 18 inches at the shoulder. No registry recognizes this cross, so these are typical ranges rather than a standard.
How can I tell how big my Pomsky puppy will get?
Weigh your puppy and enter its age in the calculator on this page. It is already set to the medium growth curve for this breed, so it works backwards from where your puppy is now rather than from the breed average. Four to six months is when the estimate is most reliable.
How often does a Pomsky need grooming?
A double coat needs a groom every 4 to 8 weeks under published guidance. Over a year that adds up, and the grooming cost estimator works out what it comes to for a dog this size.
When does a Pomsky stop growing?
Weight gain slows to almost nothing at around 10 months for a dog in the medium size class. Height finishes earlier than weight in every breed.
How big does a Pomsky get?
Twelve to 35 pounds, with most between 16 and 24. The spread is wide because the two parent breeds are so different in size.
Will my Pomsky look like a small Husky?
Some do and some do not. Coat pattern and ear set come out differently in every litter, and there is no standard to breed toward, so appearance varies as much as size.
When is a Pomsky full grown?
Around ten months for a Mini and closer to eleven for a Standard. Our figures put the small and medium size classes at 88 to 90 percent of adult weight at ten months.

How we calculate this

The adult weight and height come from the sources below. The shape of the growth chart comes from our own calculation on the open data behind a published veterinary growth standard, described on the how we calculate page. The charts are estimates built from a breed range and a population curve, not measurements of this breed.
